Stage one of the project is set to become a reality after a further investment of $4.8 million from the NSW and Australian governments' Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund was announced.
State Member for Bathurst Paul Toole announced $2 million in 2019 to kick-start the complex, which is going to be developed on a greenfield site at the entrance to the town, just off the O'Connell Road.
"I have been a strong supporter of this project right from the beginning and have continued to advocate for additional funding so this project can deliver a state-of-the-art facility for locals and visitors alike," he said.
He said an eight-hectare parcel of land has been earmarked for the project.
"The relocation of the Oberon Tigers' home ground will create a sports hub featuring two rugby league fields, three netball courts, a clubhouse, spectator seating and amenities," he said.
"It is envisaged that future stages will include the construction of a synthetic hockey field as well."
Oberon Tigers Senior Rugby League Club president Ian Christie-Johnston said the long-term plan is about creating a sporting environment for the town.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Disaster Recovery John Barilaro said the diverse nature of the Stage Two Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund projects was driven by the specific recovery needs of each community.
"One year has passed since we cleared 3600 properties damaged or destroyed by the Black Summer bushfires and we are continuing to deliver the support that the Oberon region needs to keep moving forward in recovery," Mr Barilaro said.
The Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Package is one part of the $4.5 billion overarching bushfire support program co-funded by the NSW and Australian governments for bushfire recovery, response and preparedness in NSW.
