Member for Bathurst Paul Toole was in Oberon last week to announce a NSW Community Building Partnership (CBP) grant of $15,000 would go to the museum to be used for repairs to the 1887 Museum Cottage.
The Museum Cottage is falling into a state of disrepair and needs to be made weather-proof to save it from succumbing to the inclement conditions for which Oberon is well-known, Mr Toole said.

He met with Col Roberts from the Oberon and District Museum to deliver the news and see first-hand what work is needed to ensure the building is preserved for generations to come.
"The project is quite complex because of the fragile nature of the cottage," Mr Toole said.
"Planned works include the replacement and repair of damaged and rotted weatherboards, frame, roof and flashing.
"The aim of the project is to render the cottage to a structurally sound state and make it weather-proof, safe and accessible."
The Museum Cottage is an old weatherboard structure that was built around 1887 before being transported to the museum for safe keeping in 1994 when the Albion Street bypass was being constructed.
According to records, the cottage was built by Syd Babcock for his mother.
It was never connected to power or water and is so small it would probably fit into the lounge area of some modern homes.
There are many items of interest in the cottage, but one is the hospital bed used by the midwife Nurse Fox to deliver babies.
The museum is open Sundays from 10.30am to 4pm, or by appointment, and the first Saturday of the month from noon to 4pm.
Entry is $5 for adults and $12 per family.
Enter via Scotia Avenue, off Lowes Mount Road.
The museum has a collection of agricultural artefacts, railway memorabilia, pottery reproduction of Oberon in the 1930s and photographic display.
Museum members are on the lookout for members who are prepared to volunteer their time on Sundays and the first Saturday of the month.
