Councillor Clive McCarthy said the kerbside verge on Oberon Street was an "eyesore".

"The garbage and cars left on council's property outside the house on the entrance to town did not sit well with neighbours," he said.

"The footpath was completely blocked with wrecked cars and it is very dangerous for anyone wanting to pass through the area. Children would have to walk out on to a busy road, which puts them in danger.

"That's when I contacted the police and senior staff at council to see what can be done."

Oberon Council general manager Gary Wallace said appropriate documentation was placed on the vehicles saying they had to be removed within three days.

"As part of the roads act, police can instigate the removal of these types of vehicles not on private property," he said.

Mr Wallace said the cars were removed voluntarily by the owner on Friday.

Mr Wallace said they responded quickly and the cars were removed with police in attendance.
