For a local government area with so much going for it, including a fine group of dedicated and generous council employees and a capable and diverse group of councillors, led by an incredibly hard working mayor, a stranger would easily gain the impression from the paper that this is a community going down the plughole.
Nothing could be further from the truth!

We have full employment, generous local big businesses contributing to our projects, a wealth of facilities and services, with improvements and development continuing to take place.
There is so much going on. For example, our business and development officer Mathew Webb has put together a large and varied range of events in the past 12 months which are appealing to visitors and locals alike, making life in Oberon even more interesting.
The Redfin Roundup Fishing Competition, held last weekend, was a great success and this weekend's biking event, forming part of Oberon Outdoor Week, should be a real winner.
All this activity sees local businesses benefiting from the influx of people to town, with a flow-on effect to the whole community.
We have a fitness centre being constructed, the pool has been made even more user friendly and the "state of the art" skate park at the Common was put to great use last weekend, with free lessons for the more than 30 young people who came along to participate.
Let's celebrate and talk about our successes and, above all, retain some balance.
