REDFIN ROUNDUP
THE Oberon Redfin Roundup is a family-friendly two-day fishing tournament that aims to reduce the redfin population in Oberon Dam.
The event targets families, offering an array of prizes, food and peripheral entertainment to attract anglers to camp and enjoy the surrounds of Lake Oberon.
Entry for the competition is free and the alpine waters of Lake Oberon offer both trout and redfin close to Sydney.
The Redfin Roundup will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 2 and 3 at the Reef Reserve, Oberon.
RAT RACE
THE Oberon Rat Race is a Family Funduro that includes cross country running and mountain biking along the shores of Lake Oberon. A 6.5km course will provide the perfect location for a mountain bike time trial and cross country running race that will be sure to test competitors' fitness, according to organisers.
The day will also incorporate NSW Bike Week, with a beginners' downhill course giving everyone an opportunity to try mountain biking.
The Rat Race will be held on Sunday, November 10 from 8am at the Oberon Golf Club.
FOSSICKING
THE Oberon Visitor Information Centre will be hosting fossicking workshops, displays and instructional sessions across four days.
Free fossicking equipment and maps will be available across the four days and guests will be able to learn the skills and get local tips for finding sapphires, zircons, gold and the occasional diamond across the region.
The demonstrations will run from November 6 to 9 at 10am and 3pm at the Visitor Information Centre.
HERITAGE TOURS
YOUR guide will take you around the region where you will hear the stories, meet the locals and explore the homesteads that have played a strong role in the history of the region. This specially crafted tour involves private residences and access that is rarely granted, so departures are limited to the Oberon Outdoor Week period. Tours will include transport, guide, lunch and historical hidden gems of the Oberon region.
Tours will be held on November 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 from 9am to 4pm. Cost is $89 per person. Bookings at the Visitor Information Centre.
MUSEUM TOURS
THE Oberon Heritage and Museums Tour will mix colonial farm life and the museums of Oberon. Exclusive access has been arranged to private properties not usually open to the public. Participants on the Heritage Homesteads and Museum tour will meet the owners, hear their stories and enjoy a day in the scenic countryside.
Tours will depart the Visitor Information Centre on November 9 and 10 from 9am to 4pm.
SKATE PARK
OBERON Skate Exhibition will be a chance to bring a skateboard or scooter to the skate park to get professional coaching from Blunt Side Sk8 Park Tours. As well as coaching for all ages and skill levels on Saturday, November 2, there will be demonstrations, prizes and giveaways.
