JAMES Baxter-O'Shea attended his first Rotary conference with fellow Rotarians on the last weekend in March at Griffith.

To his surprise, he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award for his contribution to his local community, his inspiration and dedication to "service above self". Only 150 are awarded each year worldwide.
Mr Baxter-O'Shea, who has muscular dystrophy, has been a member of the Rotary Club of Oberon for two years and has served on the board as IT director and now as public image director.
"I may not be able to contribute physically, but I use my brain and do all the technology stuff," he said.

He said he felt very honoured to receive the award, especially as the Rotary International vice president Anne Matthews was the person to present him with it.
District governor John Glassford said Mr Baxter-O'Shea inspired him when he visited Oberon two years ago.
"I heard the story of how James inspired the town and Rotary. This is a top award for a young man who inspired the bejeezus out of me."
