Daniel Prasad, who has property on the Albion Street bypass, had the necessary equipment installed two weeks ago.
Mr Prasad said he was approached to do the readings as it was a perfect location.
A BOM spokesperson said they had more than 12 inquiries after advertising the position.
"Some premises were too suburban and overcrowded and others were on public land, which left the equipment open to vandalisation," the spokesperson said.
Mr Prasad said they have their own weather recording equipment as it is required for his greenhouse.
“Weather recording is important to Oberon – we have clear days and snowfalls, along with four seasons in one day,” he said.
"Any remuneration I receive will be donated to the Don't Mess With Drugs (DMWD) foundation.”
