Kempsey West Public School recently hosted an obstacle course fun day. During the morning, and some of the afternoon, the students had free rein to tear through the top-notch course from 'ObstAcool'. Later in the day, the school watched on as several Macleay businesses raced trough the course to decide who would take home the coveted Kempsey West Public School trophy and ultimate bragging rights. Teacher Emma Bates was instrumental in organizing the fun day for Kempsey West Public School. "We saw the obstacle course in Port Macquarie, and most of our students can't get to Port, so we brought it here," she said. "Then, the idea was put forward to get the community involved in the school. "We sent the word out over Facebook, and before we knew it Kempsey Macleay RSL, Kempsey Toyota, Coastline Credit Union, Kempsey Shire Council and Kempsey Neighborhood Centre had all signed up to race." It was a tough-fought race; there were thrills, spills and more than a little bit of good-natured banter, but ultimately the staunch team from Kempsey Macleay RSL won the day, the trophy and bragging rights. The last match of the day had the best racer from each team battle it out one last time. Annabelle from Coastline Credit Union set a relentless pace that left the other teams representatives in the dust. This was the first time Kempsey West Public School has hosted the course, and parent liaison officer Kellie trees is hoping it won't be the last. "The kids had an absolute ball, and it looks like the adults did as well, I think we will look to do something like this again," she said. "The Commonwealth Bank sponsored a barbecue lunch and even sent their Dolomite mascot. We are also having other schools from the area visiting to test out the course; it has turned into a real community event."
