The NSW School Updates app provides information on the operational status of public schools across the state, in the case of closure because of COVID or other incidents such as bushfire or bad weather.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.
Once downloaded, the app will prompt the user to add a school; multiple schools can be added.
The app will then show these schools and whether they are open, as well as the date the schools' statuses were last updated.

People can opt in to receive notifications on their phone when one of their chosen schools' status changes.
The app also links to NSW government advice for families, including the term four roadmap, what each of the levels of restrictions operating in schools involve, information on vaccinations, the rules around masks, and exams.
To add a new school to list, click the plus sign in the top right corner of the screen.
Users can remove schools by tapping 'Edit' in the top left corner.
Parents and carers can also find out the operational status of schools by visiting the Education Department's school safety page.
However, those with children at independent and Catholic schools will have to find out directly from their school or the Catholic education office about any closures.
