The greens are in top shape and the surrounds and fairways are in really good shape.
Eighteen golfers played the Thursday afternoon 12-hole comp last week.
Laurie Murphy had a long-awaited return to form. His 28 points put him well ahead of the rest and will cost him a few handicap shots. He will find it harder to win next week.
Phil Cummings was the runner-up with 25 points.
Alan Cairney was closest to the pin on the first. Balls went to Alan Cairney, Harold Lyme, Barry Stubbs, Don Miller, Andrew Yeo, Kevin Hally, Ken Maddison and Mick English.
On Saturday, golfers played a stableford competition in wonderful conditions - beautiful sunshine, no wind and an immaculate course. Most of our golfers found it hard to play to their handicap, though.
Adrian Poulten was the only golfer in A grade to play to his handicap and his 36 points were enough to win. Barry Lang wasn't far behind to be runner-up.
Kevin Whalan was on fire and his round of 39 points made him the B grade winner. Phil Cummings was the unlucky runner-up with 38 points.
Nearest the pin on the first was Peter Hutchinson (three metres). Neil Whalan was closest on the 17th at 3.3m.
Balls went to Kevin Hally, Mark Mathews, Laurie Murphy and Peter Ryan.
On Saturday, golfers will play a stableford competition for the Diggers Cup. The RSL Club Sub Branch representatives will be on hand to present the trophy.
Cart drivers are reminded to stick to the cart paths as much as possible and keep well clear of the green and mounds around the greens.
We all like to hit off the grass and if you keep your carts on the cart paths, we all have more chance of doing that.
Members are reminded that when playing in a competition, you only have preferred lies on the fairways, not on the banks around the greens and in the rough.
