At Oberon Council's ordinary meeting, Cr Clive McCarthy moved a motion that council engage a level 4 electrical designer to obtain a plan for undergrounding power lines for the purpose of town beautification at Oberon Street west of Dudley Street to Raleigh Street and Oberon Street, Raleigh Street to existing completed works.

An amendment was moved and carried that quotes be obtained from appropriate electrical designers for undertaking detailed design for undergrounding the power lines.
It was determined if the most suitable quote obtained is under $10,000 the the general manager be delegated authority to use funds from the Town Improvement Fund (unallocated) and appoint a designer to undertake the work.
If the design is obtained then the general manager obtain cost for each of the areas identified and provide a further report to council.
Cr Andrew McKibbin said they may go ahead with one section only depending on cost.
Cr McCarthy said "we seemed to be standing on our hands and not moving forward".
Cr Ian Doney said he supported the idea, keeping in mind the element of costing.
