OBERON Council has voted to direct bushfire relief funding \towards the development of the Oberon Mountain Bike Trail Project.

Federal Drought and Emergency Management Minister David Littleproud and Bathurst state MP Paul Toole announced last month that Oberon would receive $250,000 under Phase Two Stream One of the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF),.
The funding is to promotes community wellbeing, social and future disaster resilience by allowing the development of locally based projects that directly benefit recovery efforts so locals impacted by the fires to continue to rebuild their lives.
Stream One of the BCRRF provides funding for shorter-term projects, including council-led small scale community grants programs. A minimum of 25 per cent of the allocated funds are to be used for a local council-led community grants program.
A Oberon Council's ordinary meeting last week, a recommendation was carried that council allocate $184,955 of the funding to the Oberon Mountain Bike Trail Project.
The bike trial project aims to engage a trail building company to develop a mountain bike trail network in the crown land area adjacent to the Oberon Golf Club.
The area includes crown land reserves. The care and management of these reserves are under council control.
The area is currently used by a small section of the community for recreational purposes, although the majority of the location is under utilised due to the lack of access, trail formation and signage.
Council also voted that all "shovel ready" projects that provided a cost estimate below $20,000 will be nominated for funding under this program.
They include Oberon Masonic Lodge, air conditioning $4000; St Aidans Community Church Black Springs, picket fencing $5000; Oberon Museum, accessible toilet facilities, $12500; Oberon Children's Centre, fencing at rear of preschool $4360; Oberon Junior Rugby League Club, program for juniors coaches and support staff, $10000; Oberon Uniting Church Hall, defibrillator, $2000; Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway, roof repairs on rolling stock shed, $6000; Oberon Arts Council, arts picnic day at Oberon Common, $3000; Oberon Arts Council, music night at Golf Club, $3500.
There is a further round of Bushfire Recovery and Resilience grants of between $20,000 and $300,000 with applications closing November 10.
