* Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Sunday delayed an announcement on easing restrictions by a day or two. The decision was labelled by Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a "profound disappointment".
* Health authorities in Victoria are waiting for results of about 1000 swabs after 3000 people were tested over an outbreak in Melbourne's north.
* Former Victorian health minister Jenny Mikakos also lashed the delay as unnecessary and was evidence of paralysis in decision-making.
* Victoria reported seven new cases, six of them linked to the outbreak in Melbourne's north, which now includes 39 people from 11 households.
* NSW recorded seven infections in hotel quarantine but no locally transmitted infections for a third consecutive day.
* South Australia had four new cases, all of them in hotel quarantine.
* Western Australia documented three new cases, all of them in hotel quarantine.

KEY DATES
* October 26 - Tasmania's state of emergency due to expire and people from low-risk states, all bar NSW and Victoria, and New Zealand will be free to enter.
* November 1 - More restrictions due to be eased in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Queensland border reopened to NSW visitors subject to conditions being met.
* November 2 - Residents from NSW could be allowed into Tasmania, with the situation being monitored. Regional Victorian residents allowed to travel to the Northern Territory if case numbers remain low.
* November 6 - Victoria's hotel quarantine inquiry report due.

* There were 21 new cases in Australia - seven in Victoria, seven in NSW, four in SA and three in WA.
* The national death toll is 905: Victoria 817, NSW 55, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states.)
