BURRAGA mill manager Anthony Francis' community contribution and care for his workers have been highlighted in his nomination for a land manager award.

Mr Francis, who works at Burraga Australian United Timbers, has been nominated in the 2020 NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards in the category of Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Crown Land Manager Excellence Award.
Mr Francis manages the Burraga mill, which employs mostly locals, and the nomination for him says he instils an attitude of "working as part of a team".

The managing director of the mill is Phil Burke, who has owned the mill for more than 20 years and employs 23 workers - mostly locals from Burraga.
Recently, the mill has had the best turnover in production in 22 years and Mr Francis worked long hours while always putting his workers' wellbeing first and foremost, the nomination says.
Australian United Timbers is described as being the market leader in the manufacture and supply of landscaping timbers, certified building poles and large diameter prefect rounds.
It is also the first company in Australia to produce impregnated colour timber. This new product range is marketed as "Cherrypine".
Mr Francis is captain of the Burraga Rural Fire Brigade and 50 per cent of the workers are members.
Australian United Timbers is described as sincerely caring about the welfare of the environment and the potential adverse effects industry can cause to the ecosystem.
That is why the company only uses renewable plantation grown pine in the production of its landscaping, fencing and building timber products.
Products from the mill can be purchased directly or through landscaping stores as far away as Sydney and Queensland.
Mr Francis, according to the nomination, has been instrumental in keeping many locals employed during hard times.
The mill also employs inmates from Shooters Hill Correctional Centre. The young offenders work when in custody to gain skills for when they are released.
According to Mr Francis, staff are committed to a high level of service and providing professional advice on all of their products.

Nominations for the NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards have closed. Finalists will be presented and winners announced at an Awards Gala Presentation Dinner on Friday, November 20.
Prizes will be awarded to each of the category winners, who will also be presented on stage with a trophy. Plus, every nomination receives a certificate of achievement.
