CSU Mungoes continued their strong start to the competition with an emphatic 54-0 triumph over the visiting Lithgow Bears, while the Orange United Warriors hit the road to defeat the Kandos Waratahs 46-4.
Mungoes were a far more clinical machine than the one which featured in their scrappy opening round victory against the Orange Barbarians, barging through the Bears with a big performance from their forward pack.
The men up front laid the groundwork for the backs at Diggings Oval and CSU centre Blake Schaefer was the big beneficiary of that work as he notched up a hat-trick.
The Orange United Warriors, meanwhile, came out like a house on fire in their game, scoring the bulk of their points in the first half before the rain put a dampener on their offensive efforts in the latter stages of the contest.
Captain Kurt Beahan was quick to praise Kandos, highlighting the effort they put in from start to finish, despite being on the wrong end of a lopsided scoreline.
"I'll tell you what ... they didn't stop coming," he said.
"Their resilience probably put us off at the end of the game. We could have won by 80, but they didn't go away ... full credit to them."
Beahan said a round four clash with the Oberon Tigers will help his side get a feel for where it sits in the Mid West Cup.
The Warriors will play CSU Mungoes this weekend in the third round before meeting the Tigers.
"CSU and Oberon are really tough sides ... these two games coming up will really test us," Beahan said after the Warriors' 46-4 defeat of the Kandos Waratahs last weekend.
