Operation Armour is being conducted by police across the state to ensure compliance by gun owners.
Police will contact each owner and organise a time where the safe in which the firearms are kept will be inspected, along with each firearm and ammunition.
Firearms owners are reminded to ensure their storage safe complies with the requirements and is secured to the floor and wall as required.
Ammunition must be kept locked away separately from firearms.
Breaches of the regulations carry heavy penalties and the owner can be disqualified from holding a firearms licence if found to be not complying.
Information relating to the requirements can be found at the Firearms Registry site.
EDITH FIRE
A PASSING motorist noticed smoke coming from a house on Edith Road at Edith on Tuesday, June 30, stopped, saw the house was alight and attempted to put out the fire with a nearby hose, without success.
Emergency services were contacted and police attended and found the house well alight.
The blaze was extinguished by fire crews and, thankfully, no members of the household were at home at the time of the fire, which destroyed the house.
The fire is thought to have started in the fireplace area, where a wood heater was left burning when the family left the house for the day.
Police would like to remind people to ensure their wood fires are checked and safely contained before leaving the heaters unattended.
FIRE AT MOZART

Smoke was seen in several rooms.
The resident found smoke coming up from the floor in one room above a diesel heater.
They attempted to extinguish the fire using a hose and local fire crews, ambulance and police arrived a short time later.
The fire was extinguished with only a small amount of damage being sustained.
