Mayor Kathy Sajowitz led the room in the reading of Alpacas With Maracas by Tim Cosgrove.
It was part of a national event where the same book was read in public libraries across Australia at the very same time - 11am on Wednesday, May 22.
More than 100 children from the children's centre, St Joseph's School and Oberon Public School were at the library to hear the story read by Cr Sajowitz.
Machi the alpaca was visiting the library with his owners, Jill and Brian Ross from Helmshore Manor Alpacas. He proved to be a great hit with the students.
Later the children sang Alpacas With Maracas to the tune of Bananas In Pyjamas.
