NSW Government's Creative Kids and Active Kids Programs

Hot on the heels of 2018’s hugely successful Active Kids initiative, the NSW Government’s Creative Kids Program is now up and running.

The NSW Office of Sport announced that 2018 saw more than half a million kids kick, swim, hurdle, twirl and slog their way to a more active life thanks to the Active Kids program. 

And, as of January 2019, it is hoped the success will be replicated and the Creative Kids program can help children across the state to get artistic and participate in activities like drama, music, dance, coding, or languages.

The two programs assist NSW families to meet the cost of getting their school-aged kids into sport and creative, cultural and other eligible activities by providing a voucher of up to $100 (per program) for parents/guardians/carers, which can be redeemed towards payment of lesson and activity costs with an approved registered provider. 

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said easing the cost-of-living pressures for parents and helping children learn and experience new activities was central to the Active Kids and Creative Kids initiatives.

“We want to give every encouragement and every opportunity for children to try new things and have the best start in life,” Mr Perrottet said. “For a family with two children, Creative and Active Kids combined will save you $400 a year.”

Together, these programs are helping get the state’s children active and engaged. Having the opportunity to be involved in creative pastimes such as dance, drama or music is just as valuable to a child’s overall development as enjoying sport, fitness and active recreational activities.
