Fluoride in Oberon: approval notice published

THE fluoridation of the Oberon water supply has moved a step closer.

An instrument of approval allowing the fluoridation of Oberon’s reticulated water supply was issued under delegation by NSW Ministry of Health chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant on September 26.

In a press release from Oberon Council, mayor Kathy Sajowitz says the approval notice was subsequently published in the NSW Government Gazette on Friday, October 5.

"The approval was issued in response to a resolution of Oberon Council at the ordinary council meeting held on July 17, 2018 that council directs the general manager to write to NSW Health requesting approval to commence fluoridation of the Oberon town water supply in accordance with Section 6 of the Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies Act,” the press release said.

"Oberon Council staff will now commence working with NSW Health – Water Division to implement the fluoridation process in line with the conditions of approval set down by Section 6 of the Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies Act."
