Seasonal and drought support events in Oberon and district

SEASONAL and drought support events will be held in Oberon and district next week as the big dry continues on the Central Tablelands.

Central Tablelands Local Land Services (LLS) will hold seven seasonal conditions workshops across the region to help landholders make informed decisions in tough times and one of them will be held at the Black Springs Community Hall next Thursday, August 16.

“As conditions have deteriorated, LLS is increasing its response, and while it’s not for a great reason, we want to see strong turnouts at these events,” senior LLS officer Phil Cranney said.

“We will have veterinarians, livestock and pasture experts there for producers who want advice on management decisions.”

The workshops are part of LLS efforts to make it easy for landholders to have face-to-face interaction with staff.

“These events make sure LLS are having meaningful connections with landholders, providing them with information and support in specialist areas,” Mr Cranney said.

To register attendance at the Black Springs workshop, go to (RSVP by Wednesday, August 15).

Meanwhile, the NSW Farmers Oberon Branch will hold a drought support forum and Young Farmers Bank Ready workshop next week.

NSW Farmers Oberon Branch chair Brett Fitzpatrick said the aim of the drought forum is to help provide certainty about the various drought support measures.

“Our members are under a lot of stress and often don’t know where to turn for support and are hearing conflicting information and self-assessing,” Mr Fitzpatrick said.

“We want to allow all farmers in the region to have the opportunity to ask questions and find out what support is actually available.”

The Q and A-based forum, which will feature representatives from NSW Farmers and the Rural Assistance Authority, will start at 7pm at the Oberon RSL Club on Thursday, August 16.

The Young Farmers Bank Ready workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at the RSL Club from 6pm.
