Below are some of the stories making headlines this week.
Shearing sheds in turmoil:
Drugs, poor living and working conditions and unsafe equipment are just some of the things affecting shearers today.
Cheeky way to raise money, awareness for rural mental health:
Fifth generation farmer Ben Brooksby and his good mate Emma Cross have just finished a national farm tour to take photos of farmers in the nude to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Aussie Helpers offers aid to 22 central west farming families:
Seventy-four-year-old farmer Gordon Tremain, who lives about 10km outside of Dubbo on the Wellington road, was one of the producers offered support from rural charity Aussie Helpers this week.
Weekly workshops support farmers through dry times:
Weekly drought drop-in sessions are offering central west producers free livestock and production advice to help them stay on top of things during the dry conditions.
Kailem’s memory lives on in annual fundraiser:
Kailem’s Dog a Hog and Family Day is in memory of Kailem Barwick. The fundraiser aims to raise money for the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Foundation and for families whose children have been touched by a terminal illness.
