Barry Stubbs was on target and had a great score of 29 points for the 12 holes. Balls went to Hugh O'Neill, Roger Arrow and Laurie Murphy.
Golfers on Saturday played an 18-hole stableford event. The recent fall of rain has made the course look a picture. The grass has jumped away and staff are having trouble getting on top of it.
As a result of the recent renovations to the greens, they are running very slowly. Most of the golfers had trouble getting the ball near the hole.
Tim Crichton was able to master the conditions and had a marvellous round of 39 points to easily win A grade. Adrian Poulten was the runner-up with a solid round of 36 points.
Robbie Armstrong was the dark horse in B grade and played a solid round to win with 35 points. Dick O'Donnell, with a strong back nine, was the runner-up on a countback with 34 points.
Balls went to Keith Prendergast, Rob McGrath, Terry Robinson and Bill Wilcox.
Nearest the pin on the first was Mick English, Adrian Poulten was closest on the seventh and ninth and Rob McGrath won the 17th.
With the recent rain, there is a lot of growth on the course. Extra help would be most appreciated to help with some mowing.
Next week’s golf is sponsored by Lithgow Toyota. Members will play an 18-hole 4BBB and individual stableford event.
A group of nine Oberon golfers travelled to Henbury course at Kandos on Sunday to play in their open event.
Lloyd Roots had a good day. He chipped in from 50m out on the 18th for a four pointer. That great shoot made him the B grade handicap winner with a nett 67.
Coming events of note are the Oberon Council Golf Day on November 17 and our own open event on November 25 and 26.
Dick O'Donnell will soon be moving to Bathurst and on November 12 the club will be having lunch to show our appreciation for all that Dick has contributed to the Oberon Golf Club.
If you would like to attend, please put your name on the sheet in the clubhouse to help catering.
