There was some pretty hot weather about this week. Some were fortunate to get good rain south of Oberon, but there was not much on the golf course.

Nevertheless, good fields of golfers turned out for the competitions on Thursday and Saturday.
Billy Wilcox hit the ball well to lead the field home on Thursday afternoon. Balls went to Lloyd Roots, Peter Dale, John Brien, Neil Evans and Roger Arrow.
On Saturday we played the first round of the Jack Robinson Memorial Trophy Fourball Par Championship.
There was a handy field paired up and some very good scores recorded.
Leading the field after the first round are Kim Rawlings and Mick McKechnie with the very good score of +11, closely followed by Dick O'Donnell and Darren Gordon on +10.
There are several other pairs not too far behind on +8 and with a good second round next Saturday, they could claim the trophy.
Nearest the pin on the first went to Robert McGrath, Neil Whalan took the seventh, Mick English the ninth and Alan Cairney the 17th. Balls went to Kevin McGrath and Keith Prendergast, Rob McGrath and Gareth Samuel.
Oberon has two teams playing pennants this summer: a seniors team (low handicappers) and a masters team (over 50s).
While neither team has had a lot of success so far, they are quite competitive, enjoying the challenge and interaction with other clubs in the Blue Mountains District.
Oberon will host the Masters Pennants teams next Sunday and have a bye this round.
Coming up is the veterans’ Macquarie Challenge the first week in March and the following week the Trainee Pro Am.
Our greenkeeper Gerard is on two weeks’ annual leave and while he is away our members will need to chip in and keep the course in order. If you have some time up your sleeve, please contact Mick English and he will give some direction for jobs that need to be done.
