A strong field competed in a stableford event on Christmas Eve. Robert McGrath had an impressive score of 40 points to win A grade and Eric Whalan was the runner-up with a handy 39 points.
Kevin McGrath, who has been in good form over the past month, won B grade with 38 points. John Crichton was the runner-up with 36 stableford points. Eric Whalan was nearest the pin on the first, Kyall Ryan on the seventh, Peter Dale hit a good one to the ninth and Bruce Amery was closest on the 17th.
A smaller field played on Boxing Day, but enjoyed great weather and a lovely course. Wayne Ortlip won the day with 41 points and Doug Collins was the runner-up with 40 stableford points.
A strong field played a stableford event on Saturday, December 31. Barry Lang showed some good touch and the benefit of not too much celebrating to win A grade with a handy score of 38 points. Anthony McGrath was the runner-up with 37 points.
Irene Bishop was out mixing it with the boys but was too good, winning B grade with the very good score of 41 stableford points. Sean Mooney wasn't too far behind with 40 points to be runner-up. Eric Whalan won the trophy for the aggregate score of the three games over Christmas-new year.
Members played an 18-hole stroke round for the monthly medal on Saturday, January 7. A strong field competed for trophies donated by Adrian Poulten.
Laurie Murphy had the round of his career to be a clear winner in A grade, finishing with the marvellous score of 78/63. The runner-up was Gerard White with an excellent round of 68/65. He was unlucky not to win. Gerard won the A grade scratch ball and Tim Crichton won the A grade putting with 25 putts. Kevin McGrath continued his good form to win B grade with a good round of 85/65. The runner-up was Bill Grady with a good score of 101/65
Kevin was the winner of the B grade scratch ball and Mark Pointon won the B grade putting with 28 putts. Nearest the pin on the first went to Gerard White, Peter Ryan won the seventh, Kim Rawlings the ninth and Mark Pointon the 17th. Balls for ability went to Peter Dale, Harold Lyme, Mark Pointon, Irene Bishop, Blake Miller, Brian Roberts and Kim Rawlings.
Golf next Saturday will be an 18-hole stableford event. There is always Thursday golf; if you are looking for a game, turn up at the clubhouse around midday and you will find plenty of keen golfers ready to play. Friday night there will be a dinner and get-together at the club. Come along and enjoy some good fellowship.
