The rally, appropriately, will be called Maintain The Rage.
Oberon Anti Amalgamation Committee, Cabonne, Gundagai, Tumbarumba, Queanbeyan, Gloucester and Taree will hold simultaneous one-hour rallys to reinforce their opposition to the forced council amalgamations.
Oberon Anti Amalgamation Committee spokeswoman Marj Armstrong said the rallies will aim to ensure the NSW Government knows that communities will not forget its “treachery”.
“The state government have taken away our democratic right,” she said.
“It is, after all, our community, our council, our voice, our choice and our elected local councillors that are affected.”
Speakers at Oberon will be Brian Dellow and Sam Harris from the Oberon Anti Amalgamation Committee and mayor Kathy Sajowitz.
Calare federal election candidates Delanie Sky from The Greens, Rod Bloomfield from the Nick Xenophon Team and independent Anthony Craig will be attending the Oberon rally.
The rally will start at 10am outside the Oberon Council Chambers.
Mrs Armstrong is hoping for a big crowd.
“We have to maintain the rage and not sit back and watch local governments being destroyed,” she said.
Oberon’s legal action against its proposed forced merger with Bathurst has finished, but a judgement has yet to be handed down.
“We are absolutely disgusted with what we found out from going to court,” Mrs Armstrong said.
“We want to let the government know Oberon has no intention of merging with Bathurst.”
