One of the initiatives under consideration is cost-effective recycling techniques for the community.
The Oberon Recycling Collection Centre is the first step in achieving this and has been developed under the NSW Government’s Waste Less Recycle More Program.
The program is funded through the waste levy, the largest waste and recycling funding program in Australia.
The program aims to:
■ Encourage local communities to think differently about waste avoidance, recycling, littering and illegal dumping;
■ Deliver conveniently-located, valuefor-money waste infrastructure to make it easier for households and businesses to recycle;
■ To drive an innovative regulatory approach to protect the environment and support investment in new waste programs.
Community support is vital to help achieve the program’s aims, and council will develop a strategic approach to waste management that reflects its, and the NSW Government’s, ambitions for waste minimisations and resource recover.
Oberon Recycling Collection Centre is on the corner of Albion and North streets and offers free collection of plastics, aluminium, glass and paper.
The recycling centre is aimed at encouraging residents to recycle, rather than dispose of items in their general rubbish bin.
Oberon Council will evaluate the community’s use of the recycling centre with the with the intention of providing it as permanent infrastructure.
