This week was no exception – golf on Thursday was well attended and some hot scores recorded for the 12 holes.
Don Miller was the winner with 34 points, a score most golfers would be happy with for 18 holes. Balls went to Neville Kelly, Bill Wilcox, Doug Collins, Barry Stubbs, Brian Balaam and Bob Slattery.
Oberon hosted the Central West Veterans on Monday with a strong field attending. Bob Rickard showed off his skills and local knowledge to be the winner in A grade with 43 points, Dennis O’Connell continued his good form to be runnerup with 40 points. Dick O’Donnell was equal best in B grade with 39 points.
On Saturday members played a 4BBB and individual stableford event. Some of the ladies joined in to play the mixed fourball qualifier to go on and play the district qualifying round at Blackheath.
The warm weather is suiting most of our golfers and some very good scores are being recorded.
Bart Fitzpatrick had a fine round of 41 points to win A grade and Bob Slattery was not far behind with 40 points to be runner-up.
Terry Grear was in scintillating form and won B grade with 42 points, and Peter Brien was the B grade runner-up with 40 points.
The 4BBB event was won by Mick McKechnie and Brian Roberts with a great combined score of 51 points. Laurie Murphy and Peter Brien combined well to have 50 points and were runners-up.
The mixed event was played as a par event. Anthony and Gleni McGrath combined exceptionally well to post the very good score of +11. Robyn Slattery and Dennis O’Connell were the runnersup with +9.
Nearest the pin on the first went to Robyn Stapleton 1.5 metres, Robert McGrath took the seventh at 2.1 metres, Alan Cairney made the ninth with his only good shot of the day and Anthony McGrath was just 1.65 metres from the 17th.
Balls went to Robert Hayden, John McKinnon, Dennis O’Connell, Laurie Murphy, Mick McKechnie, Eric Whalan, Peter Dale, Bart Fitzpatrick, Peter Ryan, Terry Grear, Bob Slattery and Ron Grant.
