In December last year mosaic bullocks and wagons were mounted on the toilet blocks at Oberon Common for all to enjoy.
But only a few days later, the work became the victim of vandals.
Members of the Oberon community and those who worked on this project were disappointed by this mindless vandalism.
The project was facilitated by Oberon Arts Council (OAC), in conjunction with Oberon Council.
Mark Taylor painted the background for the mosaic bullocks, which were created by the Oberon community under the guidance of designer and artist Selena Seifert.
Fran Charge from Oberon Arts Council said the idea was to involve the youth of Oberon in the hope of reducing vandalism and developing a sense of pride and ownership.
Unfortunately, this wonderful community project has been vandalised twice since they were mounted.
“It’s really disappointing to see these wonderful works of art damaged, as students and community members spent many hours working on these bullocks and wagons,” she said.
Last week artist Selena Seifert was back at the Oberon Common patching the wagons wheels on the western side of the toilet block.
Ms Seifert said she had used extra tough glue, but if vandals wanted to destroy something, they will.
“The Common is a lovely park for locals and tourists to enjoy. I hope they find the offenders involved,” Ms Seifert said.
