June was awarded a Paul Harris fellow.
This award is named after the founder of Rotary, and, for the Oberon Club, is generally awarded to Rotarians who have served Oberon Rotary Club and the community at an outstanding level over an extended period of time.
However, over the years, several non members have received the award – although they have generally been closely associated with the Club, for example Doreen McCusker.
While June is not a member of the Rotary Club, it was decided that her outstanding service to the community over many years, should be recognised with the Paul Harris Award.
As several speakers at the dinner mentioned, June is a stalwart of the Hospital Auxiliary; has been a great worker for St Joseph’s church and Vinnies; and June can be seen every day picking up rubbish from the roadside.
This selfless act gives makes our community a tidier town and inspires us to also contribute to the Oberon community, in ways small or large.
Congratulations, June. Your award, one of the most prestigious Rotary can bestow, is certainly well deserved.
