Why animal vaginas are highlight of new panel quiz show Tonight at the Museum

If it's a drama or some other category of fiction, there will be a lot of time spent introducing each character before the narrative can get started.

When it comes to the panel quiz show format it's the first real chance to see what works and what doesn't.

Some segments, which seemed like a good idea in rehearsals can die in front of the camera.

Such is the case with this quiz show, filmed in the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

Bits that don't work include the panel bringing in something that, if they win, will be placed on display in the museum.

What does work is the expert who comes on to talk about animal vaginas. Yes, you read that right.

The expert is funny and knows how to find the facts that will catch your attention.

Overall time will tell if Tonight at the Museum gets better or not.

In the 1960s, prime minister Robert Menzies introduced conscription.

Not long after that came into play, the government decided to send conscripts to Vietnam.

There was some opposition to that which only grew when people saw images of the war on their TV screens.

This documentary tracks down some of the key figures in the anti-conscription movement and gets them to talk about their memories.

These include one protestor announcing plans to burn a dog (it didn't happen, the move was designed to draw attention to their cause), another throwing the cliched buckets of blood around the place and others breaking into government buildings, blocking all the sinks and then turning the taps on.

If you're unfamiliar with the protest movement around conscription, then this is a good place to start.

Hey, I thought these guys were in outer space now.

That's the way the start of the new season had been sold. That somehow first responders ended up wearing spacesuits and floating around in the big black void.

Now I realised it was just a one-off likely designed to inject a little life into what is a pretty tired series.

It's been going for nine seasons and sparked at least two spin-offs that featured exactly the same set-up in other cities.

Eventually the writers are going to run out of realistic life and death situations and have to send someone into space.

Or create a storyline that revolves around chastity belt and another involving a couple of swingers.

Those both happen in this episode; I guess it's supposed to be funny, but it felt more creepy than anything else.
