The top-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has gained yet another competitor, this time one from Korea with an unfamiliar name.

The KGM Torres Hybrid is the first hybrid from the Korean brand formerly known as SsangYong.

It's available at selected KGM dealerships from this month, ahead of nationwide sales commencing on December 1, 2025.

At $45,000 drive-away for private buyers, the base Torres Hybrid K30 undercuts the new-generation RAV4 Hybrid range, which is priced from $45,990 before on-road costs.

The flagship Torres Hybrid K40 rings up at $48,000 drive-away.

The petrol-powered Torres range is currently being offered for between $36,000 and $43,000 drive-away, including factory bonuses.

However, you have to step up to the Hybrid K40 to get features like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, but if you want certain luxury items like ventilated front seats or real leather upholstery, you're out of luck – buy a petrol Torres Ultimate instead.

The hybrid variants are distinguished by unique badging and alloy wheel designs, plus a black C-pillar treatment.

Unlike rivals like the RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson, there's no all-wheel drive option available.

Pricing

Drivetrains and Efficiency

The Torres Hybrid is powered by what KGM calls a Dual-Tech Hybrid System, developed in collaboration with BYD, featuring a pair of electric motors and a hybrid-specific transmission.

It can operate in EV mode during city driving, at speeds of up to 100km/h. When the battery's charge is low, the engine automatically starts and functions as a generator to recharge it, while under heavy acceleration or during uphill driving the engine will power the wheels directly in parallel with the electric drive motor.

KGM says the Torres Hybrid uses new shock absorbers with Smart Frequency Damping for improved ride comfort and handling stability.
