Investigators allege that one man was holding the other inside the blazing house, with both men sustaining burn injuries.
Police officers arrived at a home on Wangara Street, Doonside, in Sydney's western suburbs, at 4.25am on September 4 to find a car had been damaged and the house was "well alight".
Officers forced entry to the home and found both men inside.

"One of the men was detaining the second man," police said.
"The officers were able to separate the men, and both were pulled from the house."
Two men hospitalised, one arrested
One of the men, a 46-year-old, was arrested. He was also taken to Westmead Hospital for burns to his back, where he remains under police guard.
The other man, a 35-year-old, was taken to Blacktown Hospital. He is being treated for facial injuries.
NSW Fire and Rescue officers extinguished the blaze, and a crime scene was established as investigations continue.
