THE BACKSTORY

From its roots as a cargo wharf and passenger terminal in 1912 to the five-star hotel it is today, Pier One is an integral part of the NSW capital. Prior to the construction of Sydney Harbour Bridge, passengers would board ferries at Pier One to travel across the harbour to North Sydney. But it wasn't until 1998 that it was turned into a hotel. It has been a Marriott International Autograph Collection property since 2014.
