Body recovered from water after driver speeds at woman in riverside car park

Police said the man, 86, was with the woman, 74, at a Greenwich car park overlooking Parramatta River on Sydney's lower north shore at 4.15pm on April 14.

The man accelerated towards his wife, driving through the car park and striking her, police said.

She was launched into the river with the car and driver.

She was rescued by onlookers near Manns Point and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services, including Fire and Rescue officers and NSW maritime vessels, were dispatched to assist with the operation.

After around two hours of searching, emergency services recovered the body of the 86-year-old driver.

Police have established a crime scene as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

The car will be recovered for forensic examination and a report will be prepared for the Coroner, police said.
