New research from Bunnings has revealed more than seven in 10 Australians have been putting off home improvement tasks, with time being the main reason for DIY activities slip off the to-do list.
To encourage Aussies to tackle those pesky areas that need a bit (or a lot) of love, Bunnings DIY expert Mitch McLean says a little effort now can make a big difference heading into the cooler months.
"Many home improvement tasks often get sidelined as the hustle and bustle of the year takes over - but with an extended break on the horizon, there's no better time to tackle home projects and make the most of this opportunity to get things done," Mitch said.
"Whether it's a simple declutter or a full outdoor makeover, you'll thank yourself later for putting in a little effort now so your home can feel fresh and revamped for months or even years to come."
According to Bunnings' research, the most common DIY tasks put on the backburner include gardening and landscaping (76 per cent), decluttering and organising the home (60 per cent) and painting touch-ups (43 per cent).
With a little extra time on your hands this year, Mitch shares his top project ideas and products to make the most of the Easter break:
1. Prep the garden for the cooler months
Revamp your garden so it is prepared and ready ahead of the winter season. Start by planting new flowers and mulching existing flower beds, then dress it up by building small garden pathways with decorative pebbles.
2. Build or refinish a deck
If you're looking for a bigger task to address, why not use the Easter break to upgrade your entertainment area by creating a new outdoor oasis.
3. Declutter and reorganise your home
Decluttering can be a great way to kickstart your Easter break by doing something proactive that you'll thank yourself later for.
Aim to tackle a new area of the home each day and slowly work through organising your storage spaces.
4. Paint the house - inside and out
A little bit of paint can make a big difference. For those choosing to take the extended 10-day break, transform your house with a fresh coat of paint - perfect timing for Easter at-home entertaining.
Aussie families can also keep entertained with Bunnings' Easter-themed DIY workshops and family nights at stores across Australia, with fun and hands-on activities for all ages to get creative during the long weekends.
Time to hop to it!
