The 24-year-old was driving south towards Goulburn on the Crookwell Road on Sunday, April 6 when his Toyota Hilux apparently hit a kangaroo.
Skid marks on the road, which were outlined by police, veered to the opposite side of the road. Police said the car hit a tree beside the northbound lane, about 22km north of Goulburn.
Emergency services were advised of the crash at 2.45am. It occurred about 400 metres south of St Stephen's Road, just before a bend in the road.
A dead kangaroo lay by the side of the southbound lane, adjacent to where the skid marks started.
The vehicle crashed into a tall gum tree and came to rest in a slight gully. The tree fell and broke 20 metres of fencing along the property, Pine Ridge.
Police said the man, who was the vehicle's sole occupant, died at the scene. They declined to say what part of the Central West he was from.

Farm manager Daryl George said police advised him of the collision at about 7.30am on April 6. Officers told him the vehicle had hit a kangaroo and that fencing was broken. The vehicle had been removed by the time Mr George arrived.
Items from the vehicle were strewn across the crash site.
The road was closed in both directions until about 10am.
In related news, police continue to investigate another fatal crash on Crookwell Road on March 16. Seventy-nine-year-old Goulburn man John Murrell died when his motorcycle collided about 25km north of Goulburn.

Detective Chief Inspector Brendan Bernie previously said investigators believed the crash occurred in an overtaking movement.
A witness at the scene told ACM that a truck carrying cattle was travelling south towards Goulburn when an Isuzu ute behind pulled out to overtake. The motorcyclist was also overtaking when "the bike fishtailed and hit the guardrail."
Mr Murrell died at the scene. Damage to the truck's front-end was visible.
Police are also awaiting results of mandatory blood tests on the two male drivers of the truck and ute.
The Goulburn to Crookwell Road had become increasingly busy, Mr George said. It is the main road to Bathurst and other parts of the Central West.
The thoroughfare has claimed other lives in crashes due to various factors.
In July, 2017, an 83-year-old Goulburn woman died in a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Woodhouselea and Crookwell Roads.
ACM reported in 2012 that 131 crashes occurred on the Goulburn to Crookwell Road over the previous decade. Two people died and 67 people were injured during the period.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council completed shoulder widening on the state road in 2022 and secured extra money for heavy patching.
In late 2024, the federal government granted further funds for safety improvements.
Sunday's crash occurred on a section where guardrail was installed on the eastern side, but not the western aspect.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner. The vehicle was seized for mechanical examination.
