A man imprisoned for fatally stabbing his girlfriend remains on the run from police after escaping from a regional facility.

Michael Aller, 58, was last seen at 4pm on December 18 on Forest Road in Orange, NSW.

Staff at the facility raised the alarm after he could not be located or contacted and police were notified.
The search for the escaped prisoner entered its third day on the afternoon of December 20.
The fugitive, who killed 31-year-old Amy Aiton on the Central Coast in 2012, was sentenced to serve a maximum term of 11 and a half years in 2015.
NSW Police said he was known to visit the Orange area and members of the public should contact police immediately if they spot him.
Police declined to comment on the safety risk facing residents of the Orange area.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 175 to 185 centimetres tall, of medium build with white hair and blue eyes.
He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, light green shorts and thongs, police said.
