Age pension and JobSeeker increases: how much extra you'll pocket

The government has touted the increases as cost of living relief but the social service sector has said the government needs to go further.

Centrelink payments increase twice a year in March and September and are indexed automatically based on price indices and wage measures.

The age pension will increase by $28.10 per fortnight for singles, bringing the maximum rate to $1,114.40.

Couples will see a combined increase of $42.40, bringing the maximum payment to $1,725.20 or $862.60 each.

The same increase will apply to the disability support pension and carer payments.

Energy supplement for those on an age, carer or disability support pension is $14.10 for singles and $10.60 for those partnered.

Those on JobSeeker payments will get an increase to their maximum base payments.

Single recipients with no children will see an increase of $15.30, bringing their total maximum fortnightly payment to $778.

Single recipients with children, and and those over 55 who have received income support for nine months will see a total maximum fortnightly payment of $833.20, an increase of $16.30.

Singles with a partial capacity to work of less than 15 hours a week will see a JobSeeker payment of $833.20.

Recipients with a partner will see a total maximum fortnightly payment of $712.30.

The fortnightly energy supplement on these payments remains the same, with $8.80 for singles with no children, $9.50 for singles with children and $7.90 for those who are partnered.

Youth allowance, Austudy and Abstudy payments are indexed each January so recipients will not see an increase to their base payments.

Those eligible will benefit from the increase to rent assistance.

The maximum rates of Commonwealth rent assistance will also be increased by 10 per cent on top of an indexation.

The payments will see an increase of around $23 per fortnight for most eligible recipients.
