Solo travel has been a key emerging trend post pandemic but according to a new survey by Webjet, it's "officially hit the mainstream" with almost half (48 per cent) of Australians planning an adventure on their own in the next two years. "Whether it's celebrating personal milestones or embarking on a journey of self-discovery, more and more individuals are choosing to travel alone," says Webjet CEO Katrina Barry. Boomers are leading the charge, with 48 per cent embarking on solo trips in retirement.
Millennials, however, are not lagging too far behind, with 45 per cent doing the same to escape work-related stress. Despite cost-of-living pressures, 24 per cent of the 1007 survey respondents said they plan to spend more than $5000, while five per cent are ready to part with $10,000 or more on their next holiday. Bali, London, Auckland, Queenstown and Manila are the top five destinations solo travellers want to visit, according to the report, followed by Tokyo, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Christchurch and Athens.
