The Indigenous Party of Australia hopes to stand two candidates for the Senate at the next Federal election and currently have their registration papers with the AEC.
Based in Wilcannia Uncle Owen said that the mine will destroy sacred sites, and sites associated with the frontier wars, as well as potentially poisoning agricultural land along the Lachlan river.
"It would be madness to allow this mine to proceed," he said.
"The Lachlan will end up another Murray Darling or Baaka as the water flowing into the Lachlan could be drastically reduced if the mine proceeds."

Uncle Owen said that for those concerned about the future of the Lachlan it's not too late to save the Belubula River.
"This mine, with its huge tailings dam, starts at the Belubula River and many residents in Blayney are very concerned about the mine," he said.
"Country people care about the environment too and this government needs to start showing the people out west that it will stand up for local rivers and water supplies.
"We in Broken Hill have seen what happened to the Baaka, the Murray Darling. It has been left to die. Indigenous people believe their way of life is destroyed when rivers die. We would not wish that on our worst enemy."
As research into the Frontier or Bathurst Wars continues, Uncle Owen believes that the site has great tourism potential.
"There would be more permanent jobs by promoting tourism on these beautiful sites, not far from Sydney," he said.
"We urge Minister Ley to do the right thing, to stand up for the environment and implement Section 10 in support of Aboriginal heritage and the Belubula river."
