The uniquely crafted plaques are recreations of the works of Mick Joffe, a famed caricaturist and interviewer who captured the triumphs and struggles of some of the early pioneering families of Oberon, among many other places.

The works in question, which documented Oberon's "living treasures", were housed for years in the Oberon Council Chambers and later the Robert Hooper Community Centre.

Today, Oberon Council has identified a more permanent and accessible depiction of the treasures in a public space, with stone walls displaying the etchings installed in the Oberon Common.

With the installations recently finished, an official opening of the Oberon Treasures Walls will be held on Saturday November 18, commencing at 10am at the Oberon Common.

Members of the community, and particularly family and friends of the "treasures", are invited to attend the opening and celebrate the completion of this exciting project.

Mick Joffe told the Review that he was glad to see Oberon honouring the town's pioneers.

The Oberon Treasures project was originally developed in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Oberon and the Oberon Arts Council.
