The lack of anyone running around yelling "Yes! Yes! Yes!" suggested that nobody in the club had backed the winner, Without a Fight, at the TAB, but that didn't stop anyone from having a good time.

There were sweeps being run so there were winners in the club, but nothing beats a good 9 to 1 winner with the bookies.
Betting on the Cup for once-a-year punters isn't really the point of the day anyway, It's a chance to take a little time off from work, meet some friends and have a bit of fun.
And, of course, a day to pretend that you actually know anything about thoroughbred racing, but that's still part of the fun.
