The mild summer weather attracted a good field of golfers for the Thursday afternoon social handicap event. Cheyne Barker has been roped into golf by his son but is keen to outdo the young gun.
His round of 32 points won the day. Shanon Foley was the runner up. Balls went to Hamish Gidley-Baird, Tim Arnison, Ben Turner, Don Miller, Kevin Hally Laurie Murphy and Eric Whalan.
On Saturday forty-one golfers teed off in a Par event. The course is in great condition, but scoring is difficult. Anthony is gearing up for pennants and must have had a bit of practice this week because he was well ahead of the rest of the field in A grade. Anthony's score of +5 gave him an easy win in A grade, Barry Lang with +1 was the runner up on a countback from his playing partner Ian Fowler. Peter Ryan was in fine touch to win B grade with a score of +3, His playing partner Ken Maddison was the runner up in B grade with +2 on a countback.
Balls went to David Zhou, Ian Fowler, Dave Campbell, Luke Christie-Johnston, Phil Cummings, Dave King, Sean Mooney, Bob Rickard, Ben Turner and Cheyne Barker.
The Oberon Pennant teams were to begin the season at Lithgow on Sunday, however, due to a large storm that went through Lithgow, the first round was postponed. Next week the Masters' team will play Blackheath 2 at Wentworth Falls. Next Saturday will be a stroke round playing for the monthly medal and putting competition. This round is also the Medal of Medals round, all the medal winners from 2021 will play for the medal of medals in A and B Grade. While the golf course is in great condition it is only that way because of the help of numerous volunteers. If you have a few hours spare please contact Mick, he will be on the course this week.
