Over the holiday period, golf continued on the lush Oberon course; golfers found it essential to stick to the fairways because of the heavy rough. There have been good fields of golfers from Boxing Day through the holidays and the new year.
On Thursday, 30th December, 31 players played the 12 holes social handicap event. Aaron Williams was in good touch for a round of 31 points to win from Anthony Borton with 30 points. Balls went to Darren McFawn, Andrew Yeo, Cheyne Barker, Eric Whalan, Alan Cairney, Justin Evans, Larry Williams and Peter Ryan.
On Saturday 1st January 2022, 30 golfers played a Stableford event. Marty Hotham started the new year well with 39 points to win A grade. His playing partner Anthony Borton wasn't far behind with 38 points to be runner up. In B grade Peter Griffiths played the round of his life. Peter had forty-six points, a massive score, ten shots under his handicap. Kevin Hally was the B grade runner up with 37 points. Jack Graham was nearest the pin on the 7th hole, and Dennis O'Connell was closest on the 17th hole.
Twenty keen golfers played the Thursday 6th January. Tony Curry had an excellent round for 33 points to easily win the event. Peter Ryan was nearest the pin on the 17th hole. Garry Willis was the runner up; balls went to Hugh O'Neil, Paul Behan, Don Miller, Peter Griffiths, Irene Bishop, Peter Dale, Phil Cummings and Eric Whalan.
On Saturday the 8th January, members played a stroke round for the monthly medal. There was a good field of 39 players competing in enjoyable conditions. Kim Rawlings played well to win the A grade monthly medal with a fine round of 80/71. Andrew Yeo was the runner up with a solid game of 80/72 on a countback. Anthony Borton won the A grade scratch ball with his round of 77. Barry Lang won the A grade putting with 27 putts. Jake Ribbons had an excellent game to win the B grade medal; Jake also won the B grade scratch ball with his round of 89/68. Irene Bishop was the runner up on a countback. Irene showed her skills on the green with just 26 putts to win the B grade putting. Gary Willis was closest to the pin on the first hole, and Jack Franken was closest on the 17th hole, just one meter away. Balls went to T Franken, Anthony Borton, Marty Hotham, Eric Whalan, Neil Whalan, Luke Christie-Johnston, Anthony McGrath, Shannon Foley and Cheyne Barker.
Golf next Saturday, January 15, will be a Stableford event.
