ABOUT 7.10pm on Saturday, September 11, a 53-year-old woman from Black Springs was driving a red Mitsubishi Triton utility towing a horse float along Carrington Avenue towards Rupert Street.

As the driver attempted to turn left onto Rupert Street, the utility and float mounted the left side gutter before mounting the centre median strip at the intersection.
The driver lost control of the utility and horse float and hit a power pole outside.
As a result, powerlines were torn from the pole and from adjoining houses, leaving residents without power for several hours and the pole leaning dangerously towards a house.
A police officer who was attending an address on Carrington Avenue witnessed the whole incident and attended the site of the crash immediately.
The female driver was able to get out of the severely damaged vehicle and was attended to by ambulance officers, but refused treatment.
The driver was submitted to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive reading, and she was arrested and taken to Oberon Police Station for a breath analysis.
The driver returned a breath analysis reading in the high range and her licence was suspended and she was charged and will be required to appear at Oberon Local Court on November 2, 2021.
Police will allege the reading was more than four times the legal limit of 0.05.
Police are amazed that the driver wasn't hurt in the crash due to the level of damage caused to the vehicle and to the power pole.
Thankfully, there were no horses on the float.
The incident could have been so much more serious if another vehicle was involved.
Drugs, firearm allegedly found
AROUND 12.30am on Saturday, September 11, police stopped a white Ford F150 utility on Lowes Mount Road, Oberon.
Police carried out a roadside breath test which returned a negative result, but further inquiries showed that the driver was disqualified.
During a search of the vehicle, police say they located two bags of white powder hidden in a bag on the passenger seat.
Police also located a firearm behind the seat of the vehicle and rounds of ammunition for that firearm and another box of ammunition for another firearm.
The 48-year-old male driver was arrested and taken to Oberon Police Station, where he was interviewed and subsequently charged with driving while disqualified and drug and firearms offences.
His firearms licence has been suspended and his firearms seized and he will be required to appear at Oberon Local Court on November 2, 2021.
Hunter charged
A 31-YEAR-OLD Oberon man has been charged with 47 illegal hunting offences.
In May 2021, a joint agency investigation was established between NSW Police Rural Crime Prevention Team and the Department of Primary Industries Hunting Unit into illegal hunting.
About 6.45am on Monday, June 21, 2021, officers from the Rural Crime Prevention Team, Chifley, Orana Mid-Western and Central West Police Districts, along with DPI Hunting, executed a search warrant at a property on Black Bullock Road at Oberon.
Officers located and seized electronic storage devices, mobile phones, GPS trackers and ammunition.
Following extensive investigations, a man was issued a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, charged with 47 offences, including:
- Possess unauthorised firearm,
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority,
- Enter private land to hunt animal without owner consent (x 17),
- Enter inclosed agricultural land accompanied by hunting dog (x 17),
- Hunt game without declaration permitting hunting being in force,
- Kill, hunt, shoot, poison animal in forestry area (x 2),
- Hunt, shoot, injure, capture, or possess animal in park (x 3),
- Have control of dog with hunting collar etc in park (x 3), and,
- Possess, place or use net, trap, snare in forestry area (x 2).
State Rural Crime co-ordinator, Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Whiteside, said joint investigations with DPI Hunting are ongoing.
"We are increasing our capacity to tackle illegal hunting and other rural crimes and this result is another great example of a joint investigation," he said.
