Bathurst hasn't seen significant snowfall since July 2015, with many young children out building snowmen and throwing snowballs at their siblings for the first time.

The colder weather also saw an influx of locals heading into Harvey Norman to purchase anything available to warm them up.

"We have had a lot of people buying heaters, electric blankets, electric throw rugs and dryers," a Harvey Norman spokesperson said.

It was an exciting sight to wake up to but the rain had washed away most of the snow that had settled in town by mid-morning.

Bathurst's neighbours Oberon and Orange experienced even thinker snowfall with locals taking to social media posting numerous snow pictures.

With many succumbing to the urge to travel and explore, motorists were cautioned to take extra care when driving.

With a number of road closures around the Central West and sections of the three main highways in and out of Bathurst listed as hazardous, people travelling to Bathurst for work or holidays have had to postpone their plans.

Rydges Mount Panorama Bathurst have seen some last-minute room cancellations due to guests not being able to get to Bathurst safely.

However, they have also had approximately 10 guests who were scheduled to check out rebook for another night, waiting for the weather conditions to improve.
