The workshops will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 2pm and Thursday, April 29 at 5pm at the Robert Hooper Community Centre, Fleming Street, Oberon.
The workshops will be informal and interactive. At a later date, council hopes to have the NSW Electoral Commission returning officer (whom Oberon shares with Bathurst and Blayney) attend a meeting in Oberon to talk candidates through the actual formal election process, procedures and requirements.
The Oberon local government election will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021.
Voting is compulsory. To enrol, go online through the NSWEC website. Conversely, if you are an absentee ratepayer in the Oberon local government area (ie, if you own a property in Oberon but it is not your primary place of residence), you are still entitled to vote here as well as in the local government area where your primary place of residence is located.
However, you must register for this secondary vote. It is simple: just contact council's general manager Gary Wallace or Sharon Swannell on 6329 8151 for further information.
Council will go into caretaker mode in August until the new council is elected.
This means that no major financial decisions or decisions that impost on a new council will be made during that time.
Election timelines for candidates are available on the NSWEC website, and information on what it means to stand for your community can be found on the OLG website.
