Despite the great conditions, there were only 18 golfers on Thursday.
Laurie Murphy took advantage of the lack of competition to post a good round of 26 points to win. Balls went to Alan Cairney, Paul Behan, Sean Mooney, David Zhou, Peter Griffiths and Eric Whalan.
On Saturday, golfers played the second round of the Club Championship. There was a good roll-up of players, 41 playing a stroke round.
The conditions were very good: warm, with no wind and a course in tip-top condition.
The course is offering very little run due to the soft ground and the thick coat of grass.
Mick English was the kind sponsor of the second round of the Championship.
Bart Fitzpatrick was in good touch to post a round of 82/70 to win A grade. Alan Cairney was the runner-up with a round of 82/71.
Sean Mooney had a good round for 89/69 to win B grade. Ken Maddison was the runner-up on a countback with a good score of 90/69.
Dom York was nearest the pin on the first hole, 1.4 metres; Terry Robinson was closest on the ninth hole. Balls went to Barry Lang, Kim Rawlings, Jason Sargent, Terry Robinson, Peter Hutchinson, Anthony Miller, Dave King and Peter Ryan.
On Sunday we played the third and final round of the Championship.
Ian Fowler came home strongly with a fine round of 81/70 to win A grade; Jason Sargent was the runner-up with a solid round of 82/73.
Adrian Poulten was on fire and his round of 83/69 was enough to win B grade; Laurie Murphy was runner-up with a round of 88/71. Nearest the pin on the seventh hole was Barry Lang and Andrew Yeo was closest on the 17th hole.
Our thanks go to Dennis O'Connell from O'Connell's Transport, the generous sponsor of the Club Championships.
Competition in the Championship was strong even though the fields were small because of the rain on the first Saturday.
Rob McGrath led all the way in A grade to once again be Club Champion. Rob had rounds of 77, 79, 77 for a total of 233. Jason Sargent was the runner-up.
The competition was keen in B grade with not many strokes between the top group. Adrian Poulten had a very good final round to become B grade Club Champion. Adrian had rounds of 85, 93, 83 for a total of 261.
Eric Whalan kept the pressure on Adrian all the way and finished with rounds of 89,89, 85 for a total of 263 to be runner-up.
Going into the final round in C grade, only a couple of strokes separated the top players.
Kevin McGrath's final round was his best to give him the C grade championship once again. Kevin had rounds of 101,101, 99 for a total of 301.
Phil Cummings was the C grade Stableford Champion with a total of 88 points for the three rounds.
