The 2019-2020 bushfires were the worst in the living memory of the state of NSW.
The catastrophic conditions impacted life, communities, property and the environment on an unprecedented scale. The dedication, selfless actions and sacrifice with which so many responded will not be forgotten.
At the Oberon RSL Club on Friday, February 19 the Chifley RFS Command presented brigades in its command with the citation which included a commemoration badge, an embroidered commemorative cap, a letter of appreciation signed by the premier and a certificate co signed by the premier and former Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.
Recipients from many of our local brigades were in attendance along with their families to receive their citations which were presented by Barry Richards - Group Captain, Group 7 and myself.
The evening was sponsored by the Chifley Command represented by District Manager Inspector Mick Holland and organised by Lance Scully - Deputy Group Captain, Group 7.
Community appreciation of the amazing commitment and courage displayed by all RFS members during the bushfire event can not be overstated and we are forever thankful to those who put themselves on the line to ensure our safety.
I cannot imagine the anxiety endured by the families of these volunteers every time they went out. Thank you to all.
