Geelong have opened talks with Greater Western Sydney about securing star Giants forward Jeremy Cameron during this year's AFL trade period.

It had been reported GWS were declining calls to speak with the Cats about their nine-time club leading goal-kicker.
But Geelong list manager Stephen Wells has indicated the Cats now have a better understanding of what the Giants are looking for in a trade.
"We'll do what we can, within reason, to facilitate that trade," Wells told AFL Trade Radio.
"(The Giants) were looking to be better compensated than what they would have in the AFL free agency compensation.
"If we can do a deal, where the Giants are better off then what they would have been, then I think we've got those assets at our disposal.
"We're in that early stage of a negotiation and we clearly hope Jeremy ends up playing for Geelong."
GWS became the first team to match a rival's offer for a restricted free agent, sending the clubs to the trade table.
The highest selection the Giants could have received in compensation for Cameron was a mid first-round pick.
The Cats have three first-round picks after securing extra selections from West Coast in trade for star midfielder Tim Kelly last year.
GWS are expected to demand a combination of picks and a player in return for Cameron.
As well as the 2019 Coleman medallist, Geelong are seeking to land contracted veteran North Melbourne midfielder Shaun Higgins.
"We would like Shaun to join our club. It's not something we pursued this year, but it's turned out we're in a position where if we can get a deal done he would like to come and play for us," Wells said.
Wells admitted injury-prone speedster Nakia Cockatoo is after a move to join the Brisbane Lions.
Meanwhile, Geelong are in talks with midfielder Jack Steven about whether the former St Kilda player continues on for a second season with the Cats.
The four-time Saints best-and-fairest landed at Geelong in last year's trade period but struggled with injury and fitness and was restricted to nine games during 2020.
"Jack (Steven) is considering his options. If he is able to do what is required to be an AFL player then he will be playing for Geelong next year," Wells said.
